Experiencing a Call from God

All believers are called to make disciples (Matthew 28:19-20). However, God will call some to specific ministries of preaching, evangelism, teaching, cross-cultural mission, or other specialized ministries (Ephesians 4:11-13). A “call” is where someone feels led by God to be involved in a substantial way in life-long ministry. God’s call is unique for each person. Some people experience a radical and sudden call. Others will grow into the call over time. Sometimes a person may feel a sense of urgency, burden, or compelling to do more for God. Sometimes a person will read something from the Bible or hear words from a speaker and the words will penetrate to the heart. For more information about a call to ministry, click here. Expressing a call is not enough for ministry in the Church of the Nazarene. The call of God upon a person will be confirmed with gifts and by the church and through personal preparation. Education is one of the key components of this preparation.
